We are not a government agency, and you cannot get a licence here
GetMotorcycleLicense is an independent, privately operated reference site. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by any state Department of Motor Vehicles, Department of Public Safety, Bureau of Motor Vehicles, Motor Vehicle Administration, any state rider-training program, the Motorcycle Safety Foundation, or any other government body or official organisation.
No licence, permit, endorsement or course enrolment can be obtained through this site, and we cannot process, expedite, check or influence any application. Every one of those things happens with your own state’s licensing agency. We publish what the requirements are and link you to the agency that administers them.
Information, not advice
Everything here is general reference information. It is not legal advice, and it is not a substitute for your state licensing agency’s own instructions.
We take accuracy seriously — every figure is read from a primary source and carries a citation and a verification date, and where a source does not state something we leave it unstated rather than estimate it. Our methodology describes exactly how that works. But requirements and fees change, sometimes between our verification date and your visit, and administrative practice can differ from published rules. Verify with your state agency before acting.
Corrections
If something here is wrong, we want to fix it and we would rather hear it from you than not. Email editor@getmotorcyclelicense.com, ideally with the page and the primary source that contradicts us, and we will correct the record and update that page’s verification date.
No warranty; limitation of liability
This site is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including as to accuracy, completeness, or fitness for a particular purpose.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss arising from reliance on this site — including a rejected or delayed application, a missed deadline, a fee paid unnecessarily, or a fine incurred. Riding requirements carry legal and safety consequences; treat this site as a starting point and your state agency as the authority.
Content and reuse
Statutes, agency publications and the underlying facts of the law are not ours and are not claimed. Our original writing, structure, and compiled datasets are our own.
The published datasets at /states.json and /helmet-laws.json are released under CC BY 4.0 — use them, including commercially, with attribution to GetMotorcycleLicense. Please do not scrape the site itself when the datasets exist; they are cleaner, cited, and cheaper for both of us.
How this site is funded
There are no affiliate links, no sponsored placements, and no advertising anywhere on this site, and nothing here is monetised at present. If that ever changes, the affected page will carry its own visible disclosure. See our privacy policy for what our analytics collect.
