A driver license examiner inspects the test motorcycle for required equipment and the applicant must present proof of registration and insurance before the road test. Alabama's base license fee and four-year renewal cycle are set by ALEA and do not vary by class beyond the commercial classes; the Class M license renews on the same $36.25, four-year cycle as any other class.

- Class M with 'B' restriction (motor-driven cycle, ages 14-15) (up to 150cc, separate credential) — An applicant aged 14 or 15 may take the same knowledge and road tests as an adult applicant, using a motor-driven cycle weighing no more than 200 pounds and displacing no more than 150cc, and is issued a Class M license bearing the 'B' restriction limiting operation to that vehicle only. At 16 the holder may return to a driver license office and transfer to the unrestricted Class M license without the size limits. The restricted license is valid for four years, the same term as the unrestricted license.
